Record Summary
The lives and work of three of the greatest pianist–composers intertwine in this recording as they did in Vienna in the first quarter of the 19th century. With complete command of the keyboard they exploited its entire range, stretching every tonal, technical and imaginative boundary, dominating contemporary piano playing. With their teaching they created an enduring pianistic genealogy stretching from Beethoven and Czerny, Liszt and Leschetizky, down to Paderewski, Sergei Prokofiev, Arthur Rubinstein, Claudio Arrau and beyond.
